In Spanish Nursing Homes, Coronavirus Outbreak Is ‘Out of Hand’

BARCELONA—Laura Espallardo removed her 64-year-old mother from a Madrid nursing home on Sunday following the death of nine residents a day earlier who displayed symptoms for the new coronavirus.

Many other residents there also had symptoms, including fever and breathing difficulties, she said, as did 40 workers who were out sick of a total 150 staff, according to management.
