Order Prevents Release of Prisoner Convicted of Murdering Wall Street Journal Reporter Daniel Pearl in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD—Pakistani authorities issued an emergency order to prevent the release of prisoners whose convictions for the kidnapping and killing of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl were overturned by an appeals court.

Friday’s order is intended to keep Omar Saeed Sheikh, a British national convicted of the killing in 2002, and three Pakistanis convicted as accomplices, in jail for three months while prosecutors seek to have implementation of the appeals-court ruling suspended until it is reviewed by the Supreme Court.
